Inspire Greatness — The G.R.E.A.T. Journey Experience

The companion guide to the Educator Reflection & Growth Workbook — what to say, what to ask, when to pause, and how to lead the experience.

Inspire Greatness™

Learn. Transform. Inspire.

Welcome, Facilitator

You are not here to deliver information.

Your role is not simply to teach information. You are creating a space for reflection, connection, growth, and intentional action.

The Teacher Workbook already carries the content. What it cannot carry is the room — the pacing, the silence, the trust, and the permission that make reflection possible. That is your work.

Your Responsibilities

  • Create psychological safety.
  • Protect reflection time.
  • Encourage participation.
  • Avoid forcing personal disclosure.
  • Honor different perspectives.
  • Keep discussions purposeful.
  • Model the G.R.E.A.T. principles.

How to Use This Guide

This guide works alongside the Teacher Workbook. The workbook stays in the participants' hands; this guide stays in yours. Participant wording, sequence, reflection questions, Talking Points, GREAT Challenges, GREAT Takeaways, and Greatness Compass™ content are never changed.

Facilitator Principles

Don't rush the pause
Reflection is part of the program, not a break from it.
Don't answer for them
Allow participants to discover their own answers.
Don't force vulnerability
Participants choose what they share. “You may pass” is always available.
Don't over-discuss
Some reflections should remain private. Not every question becomes a group conversation.
Don't lecture
If you are talking for more than fifteen minutes at a time, something is off.

The G.R.E.A.T. Journey

Grow · Rise · Empower · Align · Thrive

The five areas are sequential by design. Each one prepares participants for the next. Facilitator overview follows; the participant wording in the workbook is unchanged.

G — GROW
Objective: Participants identify where growth is already happening and where it is ready to happen next. Emotional purpose: Relief. Growth is measured by progress, not perfection. Professional-learning purpose: Reflective practice, growth mindset, and intentional improvement. Facilitator focus: Protect the reflection time. This is the section that sets the tone for the entire experience.
R — RISE
Objective: Participants identify one area where they need to rise and one next step they can take. Emotional purpose: Permission. Naming a struggle is allowed here. Professional-learning purpose: Resilience, self-regulation, and sustainable practice. Facilitator focus: This is the most emotionally sensitive section. Protect privacy and never require sharing.
E — EMPOWER
Objective: Participants identify one place to shift ownership to students and one place to use their own voice. Emotional purpose: Confidence. Empowering others does not diminish the educator. Professional-learning purpose: Student agency, gradual release, and professional advocacy. Facilitator focus: Keep the section two-sided: empowering students and empowering themselves.

Facilitator Guide · Page 4

The G.R.E.A.T. Journey

Continued

A — ALIGN
Objective: Participants name their core values and identify one place their practice is out of alignment. Emotional purpose: Clarity. Busyness is not the same as purpose. Professional-learning purpose: Values-driven decision-making and prioritization. Facilitator focus: This is the integration section. Slow down; alignment work cannot be rushed.
T — THRIVE
Objective: Participants leave with a written, realistic plan for what they will carry forward. Emotional purpose: Hope, grounded in a concrete plan. Professional-learning purpose: Sustainability, wellbeing, and long-term professional growth. Facilitator focus: Protect enough time for the Closing Experience pages. They are the payoff of the entire program.

Suggested Transitions Into Each Section

Into GROW
We are beginning with GROW because every journey toward greatness begins with a decision to grow. Nothing in this section is about being evaluated. It is about being honest with yourself about where you want to become stronger.
Into RISE
GROW gave us direction. RISE is about what we do when the work gets heavy. This section is not asking you to pretend anything is fine. It is asking what your next step could be.
Into EMPOWER
EMPOWER is about capability — the capability we build in students, and the capability we claim for ourselves as professionals. Both matter in this section.
Into ALIGN
ALIGN is the section that asks a harder question: not how much are you doing, but whether what you are doing reflects what matters most to you.
Into THRIVE
THRIVE is where the journey becomes sustainable. We are not adding one more thing to your list. We are deciding what deserves to stay on it.

GROW — Talking Point Facilitation

Purpose
It moves growth out of theory and into daily decision-making, which makes the reflection that follows concrete.
Ask
What makes the comfortable choice so easy to keep making?
Redirect if needed
If the discussion becomes a list of complaints about systems, acknowledge it once, then ask: “Inside all of that, what is still within your control?”
Transition
You have named where growth is possible. Now let's look at what growth actually asks of us.

Listen For

  • Time, exhaustion, and competing initiatives named as barriers.
  • Fear of looking incapable in front of colleagues or administrators.
  • Participants who describe growth only as something required of them.

Facilitator Guide · Page 11

GROW — Application

8 · Application

  • Classroom practice: one instructional habit to strengthen this month.
  • Student relationships: one student who would benefit from a different approach.
  • Professional relationships: one colleague to invite feedback from.
  • Leadership: one place to model learning out loud.
  • Personal professional growth: one skill to build intentionally.

RISE — Talking Point Facilitation

Purpose
It gives participants permission to be honest, which is the condition required for the rest of the section to work.
Ask
What does resilience look like on an ordinary Tuesday, not a dramatic day?
Redirect if needed
If the conversation turns into shared frustration with no forward movement, say: “Let's hold that as real, and let's also name one next step that is ours to take.”
Transition
Acknowledging what is hard is the first move. Let's look at what rising actually asks of us next.

Listen For

  • Exhaustion described as a personal failing.
  • Participants who minimize what they are carrying.
  • Isolation — “I thought it was just me.”

Facilitator Guide · Page 19

RISE — Application

8 · Application

  • Classroom practice: one routine that would reduce daily strain.
  • Student relationships: one relationship worth repairing or restarting.
  • Professional relationships: one person to ask for support.
  • Leadership: one way to model healthy recovery.
  • Personal professional growth: one boundary to protect.

EMPOWER — Talking Point Facilitation

Purpose
It reframes helping. Many educators equate rescuing with caring, and this names the difference.
Ask
Where is rescuing easier than waiting?
Redirect if needed
If the group debates specific student cases at length, name the pattern: “What does this tell us about the structure, not just the student?”
Transition
We've looked at what empowerment sounds like. Now let's look at what it requires from us.

Listen For

  • Time pressure as the reason for stepping in.
  • Concern that students will fail without immediate help.
  • Participants realizing a routine has created dependence.

Facilitator Guide · Page 27

EMPOWER — Application

8 · Application

  • Classroom practice: one task to hand back to students.
  • Student relationships: one student to ask “what have you tried?” before answering.
  • Professional relationships: one place to speak up with evidence.
  • Leadership: one decision to share rather than make alone.
  • Personal professional growth: one belief about your own voice to strengthen.

ALIGN — Talking Point Facilitation

Purpose
It separates effort from direction, which is the central idea of the entire section.
Ask
What is currently taking your best energy?
Redirect if needed
If the group focuses only on what is imposed on them, ask: “Within the parts you do control, what would alignment look like?”
Transition
Let's take that clarity into the Greatness Compass™.

Listen For

  • Guilt. Reframe it as information.
  • Mandates and requirements described as the whole picture.
  • Participants discovering their values have not changed — only their calendar has.

Facilitator Guide · Page 35

ALIGN — Application

8 · Application

  • Classroom practice: one routine to change so it matches a stated value.
  • Student relationships: one value to make visible to students.

THRIVE — Talking Point Facilitation

Purpose
It prevents participants from treating thriving as an unrealistic ideal reserved for easy years.
Ask
What is one condition you could influence this month?
Redirect if needed
If the conversation drifts toward what the district must fix, acknowledge it, then ask: “What is the version of this that is ours?”
Transition
Let's turn that into the plan you will actually take with you.

Listen For

  • All-or-nothing thinking about wellbeing.
  • Plans that depend entirely on someone else changing.
  • Genuine, specific commitments — reinforce these out loud.

Purpose
Why you do this work.
People
Who you serve and who you serve alongside.
Vision
Where you are going.
Accountability
What you own.
Innovation
How you keep growing what you do.

When to Introduce It

Introduce the Compass inside ALIGN, once participants have named their values. Do not introduce it on Day 1 as a stand-alone exercise — it depends on the reflection that comes before it.

Facilitator Guide · Page 46

Facilitating the Compass

Connecting the Compass to the Five Areas

Purpose ↔ ALIGN
Purpose is the answer alignment is measured against.
People ↔ EMPOWER
Empowerment is Purpose and People applied to students and colleagues.
Vision ↔ GROW
Vision names what growth is for.
Accountability ↔ RISE
Accountability is what remains within your control when things are hard.
Innovation ↔ THRIVE
Innovation keeps the practice sustainable rather than repetitive.

Using It as an Integration Activity

  1. 1.Individual writing — 10 minutes, silent.
  2. 2.Partner exchange — one Compass area each, by choice.
  3. 3.Whole group — invite three participants to read one line only.
  4. 4.Ask each participant to photograph their Compass page before leaving.

Final Facilitator Principle

Your job is not to talk for five hours.

The facilitator's job is to create the experience.

TeachTalkPauseReflectDiscussApplyActGrow

The goal is for educators to leave saying: “I didn't just attend professional development. I actually had a chance to stop, think, reconnect, and decide what I want to do differently.”
